CURRICULUM

Below is a curriclum outline for our center.  Whether you are part of Blocks to Books Children's Center for childcare or pre-school purposes we are here to make you and your child feel at home with a safe and educational atmosphere.  Come on in for a visit anytime.  We welcome you!



Infants ~ 6 weeks to 18 months

Toddlers ~ 18 months to 3 years 

Preschool ~ 3 to 4 years

Pre-Kindergarten ~ 4 to 6 years

 

Infants 6 weeks - 18 months

The main focus of our Infant Program is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for little minds to grow.

Children in our Infant Program are exposed daily to developmentally appropriate stimuli and experiences.

For the benefit of your child, we work to keep him/her on a schedule to ensure consistency between home and childcare.

Toddlers 18 months - 3 years

The primary focus of our Toddler Program is the development of positive social skills. Toddlers are also exposed to some basic academic skills on a daily basis.


Social Development:

Using verbal skills instead of physical skills for problem solving,

Developing the verbal skills needed to communicate with others,

Sharing of both items and attention of people,

Awareness of feelings,

Development of a positive self-worth,

Begin potty training process.

Academic Goals:

Shapes,

Colors,

Counting: numbers 1-10,

Reciting the alphabet in song,

Written and verbal recognition of own name.

Children are encouraged to make their own choices and to be independent.

Preschool 3 - 4 years

The main focus of our 3 - 4 year old Preschool Program is to develop a solid and basic academic foundation along with further growth in social skills.

Academic Goals:

Recite the entire alphabet,

Recognize 26 letters of the alphabet,

Count up to the number 30,

Recognize the numbers 1-20,

Understand the values of the numbers 1-20,

Recognize colors and shapes,

Recognize classmates' and own name,

Able to print own name,

Follow directions with up to 3 steps,

Social Development:

Use of language over actions for conflict resolution,

Problem solving,

Understanding and expression of one's own feelings and others' feelings,

Transition from one activity to another,

Completion of the potty training process,

Cooperation with others.

Our goal for the children graduating from the 3 - 4 year old preschool is to have an even balance of social skills and academic skills.  Socialization and listening skills are the main focus of the 3 - 4 Preschool Program.  We feel as though academics can be introduced in increasing frequency once social skills have developed.  We want our children to leave with a solid foundation in all aspects of self to assure success in their academic progress.

Children are encouraged to make their own choices and to be independent.

Pre-Kindergarten 4 - 6 years

The main focus of our 4 - 6 year old Pre-Kindergarten Program is to develop a solid academic foundation to prepare them for Kindergarten.

Academic Goals:

Count up to the number 100 (by ones, fives, tens),

Recognize up to the number 50,

Write the numbers 1-25 in order,

Recite and recognize all letters of the alphabet,

Print the 26 letters of the alphabet,

Recite phonetic sounds of the 26 letters of the alphabet,

Identify and print both their first and last names,

Recite their address and phone number.

Social Development:

Take pride in finished work,

Display courteous behavior towards teacher and peers,

Demonstrate self-confidence,

Comprehend and follow directions.

Our 4 - 6 year old Pre-Kindergarten Program is where we define and detail the academic foundation.  This is our "catch-all" group where we recognize children with special academic needs before they enter Kindergarten.  Children are given much repetition in the basics in order to build their foundation.

Blocks to Books does not offer a full kindergarten program as the Town of Raymond has public kindergarten.
